Context

Led by TOD Architects and supported by Lohia Worldspace Development, Lohia Worldspace Sustainability was involved from early on in the project to provide an evidence-based approach to achieve the sustainability ambitions for the project.

We were engaged in the early concept design stage of the project which meant that sustainability considerations were integrated into the design process from day one.

The design team adopted a set of ambitious sustainability principles that drove the construction process:

  • Maintaining comfortable temperatures passively
  • Low running costs for life
  • Minimal consumption of natural resources
  • Minimal environmental impacts through construction and operation
  • Sustainable, integrated, convenient travel
  • A community that makes sustainable living easy

The design realised market-leading sustainability outcomes with a certified rating. This means that the house will be comfortable year round with no active cooling and minimal heating. Combined with intelligent shared servicing strategies will enable residents to enjoy low operating costs. The building is expected to deliver an estimated 50% reduction in energy use compared to a 6 star average building.

Sustainable Building Innovation Laboratory is delivering a post-occupancy performance assessment to ensure the building is performing well in operation and capture lessons and insights for future projects.
